Steven Crane portrays underdog deputy Wyatt who must rely on his faith and wits in All That Is Evil. This series is all about our wonderful cast members, so follow along as we get to know them better and learn more about their personality, history, and.... celebrity crushes?

ALL THAT IS EVIL is an independent film production currently in principal photography. This ambitious horror/thriller is shooting in the Upstate of South Carolina and in parts of Western North Carolina. Stick around after the interview to learn more about the project.

INTERVIEW WITH STEVEN CRANE

Lainie, where are you based out of? Is this where you grew up?

"I am based in Simpsonville, SC. I'm originally from the small, but mighty, upstate town of Walhalla, SC."

How would you describe the industry in your city?

"As far as I know, there's not much film history in Simpsonville. I know that Walhalla and other areas have been used for some scenes in another local production. Shout out to On The Run. (Directed by Isaac Stovall)"

What are your thoughts about working on a film here in the Upstate of South Carolina?

"First of all, I'm super lucky to be a part of this project. It's not easy to book work in this industry, much less something this close to home. The upstate is underutilized for filming locations and has some great towns and areas with great character that could be used more for film/television. I love that we are using many different upstate locations for All That is Evil and the towns have been really generous and accommodating."

Let's get into the history... How did you get your start as an actor?

"I'm a very late starter to it really. The biggest impact for me was taking Improv classes with Alchemy Comedy Theater around 2013-2021. I made amazing friendships and performed many years there. It was really my first on stage and performing experience and it really opened my world to new adventures. I highly recommend anyone to take an improv class at some point.

My first on set experience was during college as an extra when Leatherheads filmed in Greenville, SC in 2007. I was fascinated with the entire process and how much work went in to such a short scene. 14 years later, in 2021, I finally got back on set with some southeast productions. Through the help of friends and networking, I found my way to Screen Artists Talent agency in Asheville, NC in 2022. They really gave me the foundation to get started and learn the ropes of the local industry. Much love to the late and great Jon Menick for taking me on, and Louisa, Joy, and Jono for continuing his legacy."

Who is your celebrity crush and why?

"Ha! Oh wow, I mean in a traditional crush sense, that's tough. I'd say maybe Charlize Theron? The confidence and command she has is incredible too. In terms of crushing on an actor in a professional sense, I'd say Daniel Day Lewis. He is a character master and it's hard to look away from his performance. (Honorable mention, Barbara Streisand in "What's Up, Doc?" 1972) .................... Also Jessica Rabbit. Cartoons count, right?"

Which actor/actress would you compare yourself to?

"I'd never dare compare myself to those I look up to, but it's interesting when people tell me if I remind them of someone. Joel Edgerton was mentioned to me and I can understand that in terms of some of his quiet demeanor and thoughtfulness. Someone else recently mentioned Billy Burke, which was also very flattering."

Who inspired you to become an entertainer?

"That's got to be a combination of people. My family was very funny growing up, so anytime I could make them laugh it gave me a real high. So I blame anyone that has laughed at something I've said for encouraging my silliness. More recently, I do have to shout out a great friend and an incredible actor, Burke Brown, for taking my very first headshots and encouraging me in this new venture."

What aspirations do you have? Any specific projects, genres, or characters?

"I'm really open to anything at this point and going with the flow or whatever may come my way. I love comedies, so hoping to work with those projects. Some super specific character work would be really fun. Writing is another challenge I'd like to pursue and have some ideas to get out of my head. Ultimately, I just want to be surrounded by it however I can."

Tell us a little bit about your character in All That Is Evil.

"Brandon Wyatt (most just call him Wyatt), is a deputy for the small town of Glen. He's a man of faith and all around decent guy that looks up to Sheriff James for guidance. He has gone from innocent rookie on the job, to seeing more than anyone should ever experience over 5 years time. Wyatt is focused both on his pregnant wife, Rebecca, plus having to take on an increased responsibility to step up his leadership role to keep the townspeople safe this specific year. He isn't the typical leader like Sheriff James and is a bit of an underdog that will need to prove himself. He tries his best, but will it be enough? "

You've read the script... What do you think will excite audiences about All That Is Evil?

"I remember reading it for the first time and was hooked. I'd say, no one is truly safe in this story. As I read the script, I couldn't predict what was going to happen in each act and was enthralled with it. I think audiences will be excited to see where it goes.

It starts with the writing, but the crew and direction will be what brings it all together. Silas has incredible vision for this project. Every day I get to work with this crew and cast, I can see their passion and excitement. We are all trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together while supporting each other, and I think it will come through for the audience."

END OF INTERVIEW

We hope you enjoyed spending time with actress Tammy Mattox.
